Job Summary:

This engineer's role is to aid in programming of systems and tools that are developed by the equipment engineering team and used by production, process engineering, and application engineering teams. This role will be key to developing new systems and tools, as well as upgrading/ expanding and maintaining software used in existing equipment. These systems control and interface with hardware, collect/analyze data, log process and system events, interact with databases and provide the interface to the users.

Essential Functions:

  1. Program effectively in C# to create custom libraries and applications for use of others.
  2. Create front-end GUI applications using WPF for use in a production environment.
  3. Conversant in the core hardware/communication protocols: I2C, RS-232, USB and Ethernet. Specifically, in the writing of classes and applications that control hardware using these protocols and/or combinations of the same.
  4. Test, debug and troubleshoot their own software, and that generated by others.
  5. Familiar with version control systems, such as Subversion (SVN), or equivalent.
  6. Comment and document code, write for re-use and modularity.
  7. Works with other engineers, programmers and analysts in executing assigned tasks within deadlines.
  8. Able to operate electrical tools safely such as soldering irons, microscopes, screwdrivers, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
  9. Communicate and listen effectively in verbal and written English.

Highly Preferred Skills

  1. Familiar with using and creating custom NuGet packages.
  2. Experience interfacing with SQL databases.
  3. Programming Python, Structured Text, VB, etc.
  4. Able to read electrical wiring diagrams for control panels and/or printed circuit boards, specification documents for electrical components, and basic drawings for mechanical layouts.
  5. Program effectively in a PLC or PLC/PC hybrid environment, preferably experienced with the Beckhoff TwinCat environment (version 3 or newer).
  6. Experience in working with Single Board Computers (SBC's such as the Raspberry Pi, Beagle Bone, etc.).

Management Responsibilities:

  1. May serve as the acting supervisor of junior programmers or interns within a project environment, i.e. responsible for work product, not timeclock issues.

Education and Experience:

  1. BS in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical or equivalent, with work experience in automation/controls and hardware communication.
  2. 1-2 years programing experience with C#.
