Job Summary:

The Optics Development Engineer is responsible for development of new processes for optical polarizers and related products. Process development includes manufacturing using typical IC industry processes, and characterization using optical characterization equipment common to optical products. This position also includes mechanical and optical assembly to create a final optical component. This requires work with applications engineers and product managers to coordinate and validate products meet internal specifications and customer requirements. The Development Engineer will lead product development teams, moving from product definition to manufacturing implementation, creatively working to expand our business into new products and markets

Essential Functions:

  • Transition new products and processes from development to manufacturing.
  • Characterize new processes and products using sound engineering and statistical methods.
  • Guide phase gate processes to ensure essential aspects of products are ready for introduction.
  • Provide operating procedures, control plans, FMEA's and other controlled documents.
  • Define and complete qualification criteria for new equipment and processes.
  • Analyze data from experimental testing, performing statistical analysis, and drawing conclusion.
  • Record results of experimental testing in clear and informative reports.
  • Characterize products using a variety of optical metrology tools, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Create custom optical assemblies, including glass cutting, inspection, and optical validation.
  • Analyze potential new products and processes for feasibility.

Education and Experience:

  • Optical Engineering or Physics/Photonics related degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with mechanical design and assembly, including CAD tools is a plus.
  • Experience with UV-Vis-IR analytical spectroscopy is a plus.
  • Experience with optical test bench, optical inspection, and testing is a plus.
