Scope of Position

This technical role will be responsible for working with sales and business development to explore new business opportunities. This person needs to understand customers' applications and design thin film coatings that meet their needs. This person will also need to understand tool-processing parameters so that the designs can be produced at a high yield. This person will need to understand metrology and be able to set specification on performance and product reliability. This person will need to work with and mentor younger engineers.



Skills & Knowledge

  • Understanding of principles, theories and techniques in thin film interference
  • Expertise with optical interference coating design (Essential Macleod, TFCalc, Optilayer, or equivalent), process development, manufacturing and characterization
  • Problem identification and solving focused on root cause and corrective action
  • Lead and recommend product testing pertaining to product design and performance to meet qualification requirements
  • Engage with the customers as needed to help address product concerns/questions from customers and other product engineering related problems
  • Write technical reports, invention disclosures, and publications
  • Experience with Autocad or similar drafting software is a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Travel: Some Travel Required up to 10%

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Optics, physics, materials science or related science/engineering field with 8-12 years of experience in optical thin film design and processes, and vacuum systems
  • Or Masters in Optics or related field with 4-6 years of experience as above.
  • Track record of quantifiable results in product and process development.
