Job Summary: Execute the X-ray strategic vision as a part of a cross-functional team. Provide and maintain a relevant technology platform road map for X-ray Tubes, Sources, Windows, and Detectors. Provide technical support to identify specific new product development projects and properly scope projects. Provide day-to-day overall management of the resources to support the road maps and to accomplish the projects on time that meet customers' requirements. Assist direct reports with performance goal setting to improve people and X-ray's core competencies. Maintain a productive collaborative teamwork environment where employees are engaged, challenged, and focused. Work on advancing the core technologies for all product lines.

 Essential Functions:

  1. Work with executive management to develop and execute Moxtek's strategic plan.
  2. Provide technical guidance and resource planning support to complete the projects.
  3. Work on improving product to market time.
  4. Work with marketing to develop technical road maps for X-ray tubes, power supplies, windows, detectors, and core technology. Create project proposals from the road map that align with Moxtek's strategic plan.
  5. Maintain an employee skills matrix and insure that skills continue to develop to strengthen core competencies and support future road maps.
  6. Act as a champion with oversight of development projects, by setting relevant monthly goals with project leaders and periodically following up with resources and planning as necessary to keep goals on track.  
  7. Provide high-level technical support for projects.
  8. Hold periodic meetings with direct reports', assist with goal setting and personal development.
  9. Monitor and mentor engineers on communication and teamwork with team members, and other departments.
  10. Maintain a broad understanding of multiple engineering fundamentals to allow for understanding applications and providing advice to team members.
  11. Be able to communicate technical fundamentals to non-engineering management.
  12. Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; addresses complaints and resolves problems; identifies individual goals and targets, reviews goals and targets on a regular basis; conducts recurring reviews and identifies opportunities for improvement of team members, and supports team by attending meetings.
  13. Other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience:
  1. Minimum Bachelor of Science, Engineering, or Physics; advanced degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of 20+ years' experience in related engineering field.
  3. Minimum of 10 years of experience managing engineers and technicians as direct reports in the R&D environment.
  4. Minimum or 5 years of program management with new product development in close collaboration with customer development partners.

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.

  1. Management: Proven record of accomplishment for timely product to market introduction in hi-tech industry, preferably x-ray generation or detection related. Experience with product development from concept to manufacturing in the US or overseas. Experienced in reducing the product to market time.
  2. Leadership: Experience in leading cross-functional teams involving mechanical, electrical, electronics, firmware, and software engineers.
  3. Entrepreneur: Work as part of a business development team to identify new opportunities. Identify and develop working relationship with key customers, partners and vendors. Translate customer wants into technically measureable engineering goals and road maps.
  4. Engineering Processes: Experience with x-ray tube design and manufacturing, high voltage stress, thermal analysis, vacuum technology, materials science, and electronics. Advanced knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and influence non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, and Business). Knowledge of x-ray detection technologies and semiconductor processing a plus.
  5. Motivator: Self-starter that is also able to impart same motivation to the team. Actively coordinates with peers as well as subordinates to proactively identify and resolve potential conflicts in order to meet defined project timelines.
  6. Communication: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
