Job Summary: Supervises production employees in a manufacturing environment on the night shifts: Assists in planning, assigning work, recommends/coordinates improvements in production methods, manufacturing equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. This is a night shift production supervisor position working nights, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Thursday through Saturday, with every other Sunday.  Periodic day shifts will be required for management meetings.

Essential Functions:

  1. Implements effective employee relations activities; provides employee coaching and development. Makes employment decisions in consultation with Manufacturing Manager. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution in consultation with Human Resources.
  2. Responsible to ensure employees safety, product quality, productivity, and positive employee morale to achieve acceptable results in all areas. Should focus on continuously improving in all areas.
  3. Supervises departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to manager.
  1. Plan, schedule, and coordinate shift activities to fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements, and deliver manufactured products in a timely fashion.
  2. Supervise the activities of the production floor and follow established procedures and approved processes.
  3. Must have a thorough knowledge of all manufacturing methods, techniques, and related equipment.
  4. Hands-on supervision of production team of 4 to 10 operators on a 12-hour night shift. Schedule is normally scheduled as 3-on-4-off-4-on-3-off schedule. May be required to alter 12-hour shift periodically.
  5. Dotted line supervision of maintenance and engineering technicians on assigned shift.
  6. Lead continuous improvement activities and projects on assigned shift.
  7. Conduct pass-down meetings with your team at the beginning of each shift to review product priorities and areas of focus.
  8. Work closely with other managers, shift supervisors or leads to ensure shift pass-down or other issues are effectively communicated with those who need to know.
  9. Participate on project teams to help implement new products/processes.
  10. Other duties as assigned. 


Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; identifying individual goals and targets; conducts recurring reviews and identifies opportunities for improvement of team members


Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree, with engineering or business administration major and one year's experience in a manufacturing environment
  2. Two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  3. Good organizational and analytical skills as well as an ability to motivate and communicate effectively with staff and other departments.

  2. Ability to manage multiple priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
  3. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read/write/speak English.
  4. Ability to effectively understand and discuss engineering method, theory, and concepts technical specifications, root cause evaluation, basic statistics, Six Sigma tools, etc.
  5. Understanding of Lean/Continuous Improvement methodologies (waste, 5S, Kaizen, etc.). Demonstrated ability to identify and drive basic process level improvements.
  6. Must be computer literate, particular in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications.
  7. Demonstrate integrity.


Physical Demands:

Considerable standing; walking; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaching with hands and arms; and talking and hearing required. Some sitting, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Taste or smell is not required.


Employees in this position are required to lift up to ten pounds on a regular basis and sometimes lift up to twenty-five pounds.


Vision requirements include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).



Exposure to the following environmental conditions is required:

Some work near moving mechanical parts, some exposure to fumes or airborne particles, some exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and some exposure to risk of radiation.


Employees will be exposed to moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
